» 2 great things on PEI Cynthia Dunsford, MLA: Stratford-Kinlock, PEI: "The other day I dropped in to see David and Rose Viaene at their new Riverview Country Market on the corner of Riverside Dr. and Exhibition Dr. in Charlottetown. KJL Select Meats has just set up shop there and the place looks and feels great. It is well stocked with some great produce, preserves, breads, and an awesome meat counter. This is a great market, and now my new place to buy fresh Island food products."

Charlottetown, The Guardian: Editorials | It's a good investment to keep our trails happy

Charlottetown, The Guardian: Editorials | It's a good investment to keep our trails happy: "It's a good investment to keep our trails happy print this article
The hiring of two seasonal conservation officers to patrol the Confederation Trail and other recreational areas is a reasonable expenditure. The province has invested a lot of money and resources developing the trail systems and promoting our beach and natural areas. It only makes sense to ensure they're used properly and safely.

The Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry hired the two officers following a pilot project, and according to the P.E.I. Trails Association, which has co-ordinated volunteer patrolling, the two extra personnel should strengthen enforcement and 'make the whole trail system safer and more enjoyable for all users.'

That should be the objective here. The only way the province can ensure the trail is protected and safe is to make its presence known. The two seasonal officers hired by the Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry helps to do this."

PREMIER TO MEET WITH PROVINCIAL AND TERRITORIAL COLLEAGUES AT COUNCIL MEETING

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI -- This week’s meeting of the Council of the Federation offers an opportunity for Prince Edward Island to discuss pressing national issues, says Premier Robert Ghiz.
“I look forward to meeting with my provincial and territorial counterparts, because it allows me to place Island issues in a national context,” Premier Ghiz said.
The Premier leaves today for the annual meeting of the Council of the Federation. This year’s meeting will be chaired by Québec Premier Jean Charest, and takes place in historic Québec City.
During their meetings on July 16-18, provincial and territorial premiers will be discussing labour market, trade and climate change issues, all of which are important for Prince Edward Island. A closing news conference is scheduled for Friday, July 18."
